Day 3 on the Continent. ๐ช๐บ
Before we set off from home, we planned to get up early each morning while traveling so we could do our travels for the day and then be able to do some exploring of our daily destination. Today was no different in that respect but rather than have breakfast in Eddy as normal, we opted to go and explore Obernai and hopefully grab a morning snack before heading off in earnst. Glad we did really because we didnโt really explore Obernai the previous day, weโd just headed in to find a supermarket really.
What a lovely little town Obernai is, nobody in a hurry or stressed, a different world really. We in the uk could certainly learn a little. ๐คท๐ผโโ๏ธ Whilst wandering around looking for a wee cafe to grab a snack we stumbled across a wee shoe shop. โSo whatโ you may ask, but to explain, Mrs had forgotten to bring mules/flip flops/crocs to use when going to the showers in the mornings (top tip much easier btw๐). Mrs decided to take the opportunity to sort this out. Anyone who knows Mrs though knows about her attraction to leopard skin pattern attire. Well, you should have seen her eyes light up at the sight of leopard skin printed crocs! ๐๐ Thankfully Mrs decided they were too loud, no no no stupid me, I meant too expensive. ๐.
We found a beautiful wee cafe/patisserie and had the most delicious and most fresh croissants with butter and apricot jam, may not sound like everyoneโs cup of tea but let me tell you they were ace. Mmmmm. ๐ฅ
So a quick wander around the town square and back to Eddy and off. We drove for around an hour and a half crossing the border from France ๐ซ๐ท into Switzerland ๐จ๐ญ and then stopped for fuel/lunch. A motorway service station this time. I have to say though, definitely up a notch from the norm. Mrs enjoyed a roast chicken dinner which according to Mrs was great. I had what most would think was โjust a cheese rollโ, but like Mrsโs chicken dinner, this was very rustic and superb.
So onwards to Lusanne and Camping La Maladaire, Lake Geneva etc. The scenery gradually turned from flattish farmland to alpine country. ๐. Switzerland ๐จ๐ญ really is a lovely part of the world. ๐ฎ ๐๐ป The roads are interesting though, tunnelโs everywhere. We found ourselves driving towards a hill and as we round the corner there appears a gaping hole in the hill!๐ ๐
We arrived at Camping La Maladaire after an hour and twenty minutes or so of driving, but not without a minor panic on my behalf (Eddy seemed like he was loosing power) ๐ but panic was over quickly, I figured out we were on one of these stretches of road that is a bit of an optical illusion and looks like you are going down hill when actually you are climbing. ๐
Actually, I forgot to mention the drama in trying to find the entrance to Camping La Maladaire. We drove past it and never noticed it. To be fair on us though, we were confused by the ongoing road works. Thatโs our excuse and weโre sticking to it. ๐ Well once we actually found our way in, I can honestly say, I have not seem or can even imagine a more picturesque campsite. ๐
Camp all set up and chilling for a wee while before sorting dinner. Weโd decided earlier in the day that weโd go out somewhere for dinner. We looked up a few restaurants and settled on (would you believe) an Irish Pub. Decent nosh (fillet steak) ๐ฅฉ to be fair and pretty tasty. ๐๐คค
Tomorrow sees us cross the Alps ๐, I believe our route also involves a car train ๐ through an Alpine tunnel. Who knows? ๐คท๐ผโโ๏ธ More will become clear tomorrow. ๐ ๐๐๐
