Today’s route takes us back up and into the Alps 🏔. Driving the length of Lake Garda past Trento, Bolzano and right into Alpine Country Through many tunnels again.
Up early again and breakfast in Eddy again this morning. Had a bit of a foo pah though whilst making my coffee. My milk frother overflowed because I left it on too long. 🙈. What is it they say? “No point crying over spilled milk”!! We I nearly did thinking of the potential stench of sour milk inside Eddy. 🙈 Panic averted though. I noticed the overflow just in time and with the help of some wipes, I managed to contain the spillage. 😉. Coffe was lovely though when I got to it. 😂🤷🏻♂️
Once we washed up, we quickly packed up the camp and headed off. But not before I quickly checked Eddy’s engine levels. Knowing Eddy was likely to be climbing today and that we’d just clocked up 1000 miles (some of those miles were potentially taxing for Eddy), I figured a quick check over was in order. I topped up the oil and coolant, not much though. Just a little TLC for Eddy.
So we were off. We headed west initially and then turned north past Verona. We’d been driving for about an hour or so and we ended taking a wrong turn and had to detour slightly before rejoining the A4. That was when something a bit odd and concerning happened. I was aware of an old black 2003 Ford Focus sitting behind us. Not really a big deal to start with. After about ten minutes though it overtook us and both occupants (who could be mistaken for a local version of the likely lads) we taking more than a glance in Eddy’s direction. At first I thought they were just another couple of Eddy’s admirers (there has been many on this trip)! However the car swung in in front of us and the driver starts gesticulating shaking his arm out his window. A bit odd I thought. Had something gone wrong with Eddy?? Was he trying to warn me?? He then grabs hold of his loose door mirror then gesticulates some more. Had something flown off Eddy and hit his car?? Trying to compute the situation and cover all eventualities, I thought rationally for a second and considering Eddy was driving perfectly and there were no rattles or knocking, I concluded those possibilities were highly unlikely. The gesticulating continued for several miles. The Focus slowed up a bit meaning I needed to overtake it. It then passed me again and then some more gesticulating. Each time, I simply waved politely and carried on. I was (privately not to alarm Mrs) thinking maybe they were hoping I’d stop and next thing we’d be robbed? 🤷🏻♂️. You may be thinking at this point, don’t be daft, maybe you think I’m being a bit mellow dramatic but I can assure you I’m not. I was becoming more uncomfortable by the second. The road wasn’t overly busy at this point either. It was still playing on my mind that there was a slim possibility that something had gone wrong with Eddy and I maybe I should stop and look him over. I decided to ease up and trundle along until we got to a service station where there were plenty of people around before stopping. The next thing, the Focus and occupants disappear into the distance at a rate of knots btw! 🤷🏻♂️Who knows what was going on but I did stop at the next service station and I’m happy to say, as I suspected nowt was wrong with Eddy. I’m sure now they were indeed a pair of likely lads who thought we’d likely have computers phone’s cameras etc. 🤷🏻♂️ 🖕🏼to them, need to try harder to get me. ✌🏼
We continued along the A4 towards the Austrian 🇦🇹 border and after another hour or so, decided to stop for lunch. AutoGrill again but not Pizza 🍕 this time chicken. Nothing to write home about though. Time for another splash n dash of fuel for Eddy, amazing fuel economy (I think,) I’ve no intention of working it out because it doesn’t really matter. I’m just impressed.
The scenery really was beautiful. Really the best of both worlds today. The route through the mountains was kind of like the A9 back home but multiplied by 100!!
We continue onto the E45 going through even more Alpine tunnels.
So after a bit of climbing again we reached Gasteig and our campsite for the night, Camping Edelweiss.
Checked in just in time for me to switch on the wifi, log into DUTV and watch the match, (enough said about that already though🙈🥺).
I logged out of the live stream and looked outside. It had started to rain. I could hear, the “Sound of Music”
🎼 Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things 🎼 (My favourite thing is Eddy)
🎼 Climb every mountain (Plenty of them today)
Search high and low
Follow every highway
Every path you know
Ooh, yeah
Climb every mountain
Ford every stream
Follow every rainbow
‘Till you find your dream, 🎼 (we have our t25tangerinedream.com)
Evening meal tonight was easy, over the road was a nice family run restaurant. Isn’t it amazing what you stumble across when you’re out and about?
Tomorrow’s route is a long one but again should be a pleasant journey through mountainous roads for the most part. We take in another two countries tomorrow being Liechtenstein 🇱🇮 and Germany 🇩🇪.
I think I hear the “Sound of Music” again!!👂🏽🎼 So Long, Farewell 🎼. Auf Wiedersehen 🇦🇹👋👋👋👋
