Introducing Eddy
Eddy is a 1988 Volkswagen T25 or T3 Transporter which was converted when new to a 4 berth campervan by a conversion company called Teca in Germany. Eddy is quite rare and we believe him to be one of only a handful of these conversions which remain in use as a camper. Eddy started life with a Volkswagen 1600 turbo diesel engine. He’s a left hand drive too.
Eddy is owned and loved by Stuart and Lynda. Stuart has done all the modifications himself with a little help from some friends. Lynda (apart from enjoying the camping with Eddy) has very much been a camper widow. 😂😂🤷🏻♂️
Initially in 2015 when we became owners of this little van (not at this point named), the van was in a bit of a sorry state. Tired, ugly and just really showing it’s age, not to mention the ridiculous shower handles someone had used for lamp brackets. 🙈 So we immediately embarked on a restoration project. Some photos are below to give a bit of an insight.
Inside, Eddy is more or less Teca factory standard, with only a few modernisations like a new fridge, heater, electrical upgrades and some sympathetic comfort mods.
Mechanically though Eddy has had a heart transplant. The 1600 turbo diesel (as anyone who knows these vans will testify) was seriously underpowered. It only produced around 60hp on a good day!! To overcome this and make Eddy much more usable and modern, in 2021 we swap Eddy’s engine to a 2ltr Subaru engine from a Forrester. This transformed the drivability of Eddy. He has much more power nowadays and can actually climb hills without having to change down as many gears.
As you can see from our pictures, Eddy has suspension lift of 1.5” and some off road tyres fitted to give him a swamper or Syncro type look. He turns heads everywhere he goes.
